
Last night, Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, officially opened the Indian Consulate in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Dr. Jaishankar, who spoke at the event, stated that the Consulate will cater to the requirements of the Indian community. Further bilateral collaboration in commerce, technology, business, and education would be investigated by the Consulate in Belfast, he added. In Belfast, the External Affairs Minister also had meetings with Junior Minister Aisling Reilly and Emma Little Pengelly, the Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland.
He expressed his gratitude to them for helping to establish the Consulate. They talked about ways to strengthen India’s connections with Northern Ireland, particularly in the areas of manufacturing, skills, cyber, technology, and the creative industries. In Belfast, Dr. Jaishankar also paid a visit to Queen’s University. Dr. Jaishankar claimed in a social media post that their new campus in Gujarat’s GIFT City is an illustration of the educational potential of India-UK relations.
