Bhubaneswar: Following claims that the notorious Jaya Hotel was serving beef as mutton, the Puri district government has issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) within a 1-kilometer radius of Sakshi Gopal College Chowk.
The move follows public uproar and warnings from the Hindu Sena to hold rallies in front of the hotel. Police have blocked off the entire area to ensure law and order.
Previously, the authority sealed Jaya Hotel on NH-216 after receiving reports that the hotel, famed for its excellent mutton dishes, was allegedly serving beef disguised as mutton. According to reports, beef fat was combined with mutton and then cooked.
The district government has forwarded meat samples to the State Laboratory at OUAT, Bhubaneswar, for assessment. Meanwhile, an assistant in charge of delivering meat deliveries to neighboring hotels was allegedly beaten by residents.
With emotions rising, security measures have been increased in the region to prevent any unfortunate incidents.
