India to Launch First Indigenous Chipset by 2023-24

India is emerging as a leading player in the global movement towards open source design of computer chipsets, according to Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Speaking at the RISC-V Technology Conference organised by Tenstorrent, Chandrasekhar announced the launch of the Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) programme aimed at creating India’s first indigenous chipset by 2023-24. The minister welcomed legendary chip designer Jim Keller’s decision to set up his startup Tenstorrent’s office in India, citing the potential for collaborations with Indian startups using RISC-V to develop AI solutions and other electronic chips.
