People across India are showing deep respect as they celebrate Mahashivaratri. Gujarat sees crowds at famous temples like Somnath Mahadev and Nageshwar. The Somnath temple has made special plans for visitors. In Uttar Pradesh, people go to Kashi Vishwanath Dham and other Shiva temples to pour water on the deity. Seven Akharas also hold parades. Deoghar in Jharkhand where Baba Baidyanathdham stands, shines with lights. The town has a big parade for Lord Shiva. Chief Minister Hemant Soren kicked off the state’s first government-run Shivratri festival at Deoghar’s KKN stadium.
In Maharashtra, people are going to temples and following a “dry day” where you can’t buy alcohol. The President, Vice President, and Prime Minister sent their wishes hoping for wealth spiritual growth, and progress for the country. In Madhya Pradesh, you’ll see long lines of people at Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar Jyotirlingas.
