
Ollywood’s seasoned actor Uttam Mohanty, who was 66 years old, died late Thursday night. He was getting treated for liver cirrhosis at a multi-specialty private clinic in Gurgaon. About three weeks before, on February 8, they rushed him via air ambulance to Gurugram to get better medical help. Before going to Gurugram, he stayed in the ICU of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Reports suggest he got sick while shooting the Odia film “Bou Butu Bhoota”. Mohanty, a star in Odia cinema, took on roles in more than 135 Odia movies and 30 films in Bengali, along with the Hindi flick Naya Zaher.
His wife, the famous Odia actress Aparajita Mohanty, and their son, the well-liked actor Babusan, were his family. Mohanty became known for his standout acts and headlined in unforgettable Odia movies like Danda Balunga, Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta, Rajanigandha, Chaka Bhaunri, Daiba Daudi, Kanya Dana, Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi, Pua Mora Kala Thakura, and Lakhe Shiba Puji Paichhi Pua, plus a bunch more. His work in films left a strong imprint on the business.
