To ease the financial burden on economically disadvantaged families, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi introduced the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana. It will enable mass weddings of girls from economically disadvantaged families, for which all expenses will be borne and bridal gifts will also be given. The scheme had a provision of ₹12 crore in the budget for 2025-26 to help ensure that not a single family is solely constrained by the cost of marriage.
The announcement was made while inaugurating the nine-day Subhadra Shakti Mela at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, where Majhi asserted that financial limitations would not pose challenges to the implementation of the program.
